‘Absolutely crazy’… Gary Neville says he has a ‘very serious’ point to make about Arsenal now

Gary Neville has been discussing the talk surrounding Arsenal’s post-match celebrations following their win over Liverpool last weekend.

The Gunners faced heavy criticism over the post-match scenes at the Emirates Stadium last Sunday.

Jamie Carragher was unimpressed with Martin Odegaard taking a picture with the club’s photographer after the game, the Arsenal skipper to ‘just get down the tunnel, you’ve won a game.’

Arsenal have since backed up their statement win over Liverpool by thrashing West Ham 6-0 at the London Stadium yesterday.

The recent upturn in form has put Arsenal right back in the mix in the title race and Gary Neville believes Mikel Arteta’s side should avoid wasting energy by over celebrating.

Neville has ‘very serious point’ to make about Arsenal

Speaking on the latest episode of his , Neville explained why he believes Arsenal need to remain composed towards the business end of the season.

“There has been a lot of jokes made this week about over-celebrating, there was a lot of conversation about over celebrating but it’s a really serious topic,” the Manchester United legend said.

“It’s a really serious topic. I made a lot of points last year how in the run emotion and passion can sap energy, particularly if you are too enthusiastic and that sounds absolutely crazy. But look it up. Look it up from a point of view of speaking to someone who is qualified in these things.

“If you use up too much emotion and enthusiasm and overhype and ramp up those anxieties and enthusiasm and excitement levels, you do sap energy from your body.

“Last season there were moments I pointed towards which maybe look a bit fickle, like where they won against Bournemouth 10 or 12 games out, and Zinchenko is screaming at the fans after kickoff.

“No doubt if your fans are there, wave, but if you are using up that level of emotion, imagine what we are not seeing.

“We only get a glimpse but you can read into the impact of that real heightened feeling, just be controlled, because they have a real chance Arsenal.”

Arsenal did drop off significantly last term but that may not have been down to becoming too emotionally involved during crucial games.

They did suffer a key injury to William Saliba at the time, which proved costly in terms of their defensive record.

There seems to be a different feel about the Gunners this term and they boast the best defence in the Premier League.

Whether or not that will be enough to topple the force of Manchester City or Liverpool remains to be seen. But despite claims of over-celebrating, Arteta’s men seem to be finding their best form at the right time.
