‘Absolutely brilliant’: Gary Neville blown away by what reported Tottenham target did last night

Gary Neville was on commentary for when Sofyan Amrabat and Morocco took on France in the World Cup semi-final last night.

The game was shown live on the BBC, with ITV showing the highlights later on in the evening as France won 2-0 to book their place in the final.

Amrabat has been sensational all tournament long and again put in a hugely impressive performance last night despite the defeat.

That has attracted interest from clubs including Tottenham, who came close to signing him last January and have seemingly reignited their bid to sign him.

Neville hails Amrabat

In the second half, French talisman Kylian Mbappe burst away into space and looked like he was going to threaten the Morocco goal.

It was a stunning piece play by the winger, who has been tormenting defences throughout the World Cup in Qatar.

But Amrabat sprinted back and made a crunching challenge on the PSG forward, winning the ball and snuffing out the danger.

On commentary, Neville described the tackle as ‘absolutely brilliant’ and it offered another reminder of why Spurs might be interested.

The midfielder is also on the radar of Liverpool as they look for reinforcements in midfield and even if they got Jude Bellingham, they would still need more.

His energy is perfect for the Premier League, although he has of course shone with a primarily defensive team at the World Cup.

The challenge for him would be adjusting to playing in a team which dominates the ball, but it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.
