Erik ten Hag has claimed that Tottenham winger, Steven Bergwijn, ‘fits the bill’ at Ajax,

In the summer, amongst a list of many names, ten Hag was touted to possibly replace Jose Mourinho at Spurs and work alongside players such as Bergwijn.

Whilst that won’t happen at Hotspur Way, it may still happen in Amsterdam because Ajax are keen on his talents.

And ten Hag shared his thoughts on the £27 million man possibly returning to his home country, just 18 months after he left.

“I never go into names,” said Ten Hag. “But it is an absolute truth that Bergwijn fits the profile. But whether it is also possible, I won’t go into that.”

The fact that Bergwijn managed only one Premier League goal last season probably shows where he is at in his Spurs career.

If he was sold this summer then not many supporters would miss the explosive wide player, who has seemingly left his powder in PSV after that big-money transfer in January 2020.

Whilst he scored on his debut, and has shown glimpses here and there, overall, the speedster has been a disappointment.

There are probably other Spurs players who need shifting before Bergwijn, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he does leave by the time the summer transfer window slams shut.

Either way, if he stays put then he needs a big season, else Daniel Levy has splashed yet more cash on a player that’s not delivered.
