‘Absolute mustard’: Some Everton fans wowed by £90k-a-week ace in FA Cup third-round win
A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to praise James Rodriguez’s match-winning display in the Toffees’ FA Cup third-round win today.
Carlo Ancelotti’s charges took on Rotherham at Goodison Park but were made to work hard for their victory, eventually triumphing in extra time.
Cenk Tosun opened the scoring for Everton after just nine minutes, the Turkey international’s clever chipped finish giving him his first goal in blue since 2019.

However, the Millers regrouped and took the game to the Toffees, with the likes of Matthew Olosunde, Daniel Barlaser and Matt Crooks all coming close.
Rotherham went on to level in the 56th minute as Olosunde hooked home a finish into the far corner of Robin Olsen’s net from a tight angle.
Tosun was denied a second goal by VAR in the latter stages of normal time, but substitute Abdoulaye Doucoure slotted home the winner early on in extra time.
Admittedly, James did not deliver the best performance, fading as the game went on, but all he needed was one opportunity and he took it with a superb through-ball to Doucoure.
Here is what some Everton fans made of the man’s exploits on the day:
James Rodriguez plays for Everton FC. Still blows my mind.

This is exactly why James is so important to us. It’s been very rare for him to have an off day but today was certainly one but one flash of brilliance wins us the game. What a pass

James magical pass too, that vision wins football matches, let’s hope he’s ok.

And that’s why James is in the team. The only player who can play a quality forward pass. Top assist and a cool finish.
