Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes hails Leeds loanee Ryan Edmondson
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes was majorly impressed with Ryan Edmondson on Tuesday night, as the Leeds United loanee scored twice for the Scottish outfit to net his first goals for the club.
Edmondson, 19, is an exciting young talent that departed Elland Road in the summer on loan and made the move to Pittodrie until January.
The English centre-forward saw the start of his season disrupted by an ankle problem, but he’s been reintegrated to the first-team group in recent games and made a big impression in midweek.
He scored twice for Aberdeen in a 4-2 league victory over Hamilton, as well as setting up an assist.
The teenager is a physical striker with a big frame and that is why he’s so effective at holding the ball up with his back to play, but there is also a real clinical touch in front of goal.
His first goal was a simple right-footed finish after he found space in the penalty box, while the second came about after a driving run in the final third of the pitch and a lifted finish over the goalkeeper.
McInnes gave a glowing verdict on the Leeds loanee in his post-match analysis and mentioned how the youngster already has the physical traits to be a success at senior level.
“Ryan Edmondson, for somebody so young, he led the line so well, and we enjoyed the benefits of having a traditional number nine up there, and we’ve lacked that in some games this season,”
“We picked him tonight because we felt we’d get crosses into the box and thankfully he got his reward. He was unlucky not to get a hat-trick on his first ever start and I’m sure he would have done if he hadn’t had to come off after rolling his ankle.
“He has a rawness about him but I like that, he’s eager to please, eager to score goals. He acquitted himself very well. Physically he can deal with it, for someone so young he’s got big shoulders, a good strength about him, and those goals will do his confidence a power of good.”

TBR’s View:
Edmondson was far too good to spend another year in the Leeds Under-23s side, which is why the decision to loan him out in the window made perfect sense and he’s now announced his arrival in Scottish football.
The centre-forward has looked dangerous in games for Aberdeen so far and there is a good chance he can try cement a regular starting position for them, as he’s now going to be brimming with confidence.
His current deal with the Dons expires in January, but Marcelo Bielsa’s side should consider extending that depending on how the next couple of months goes.
