Aaron Ramsdale issues Mikel Arteta verdict after leaving Arsenal this summer for Southampton

This summer marked the end of Aaron Ramsdale’s time in north London as an Arsenal goalkeeper as he departed for Southampton.

Arsenal꧙ made four new signings over the summer with the Gunners doubling their number of arrivals in the final hours on deadline day.

🏅One of the players who was brought in on deadline day was goalkeeper Neto from Bournemouth who has landed on a season-long loan deal.

🍰This comes following David Raya’s loan move to Arsenal also being made permanent earlier in the summer.

๊After establishing himself as the number one at the Emirates, Raya’s arrival on a permanent basis was somewhat of a formality.

And with that came the departure of Aaron Ramsdale🍨 who made his exit from north London for the south coast.

What Aaron Ramsdale tried to do with Mikel Arteta before leaving Arsenal

🐬Ramsdale struggled massively last season once Raya got his foot in the door and claimed the spot in the starting XI.

⛦Although he was still able to claim himself a spot in the England squad this summer, it was clear Ramsdale would require a move over the summer to play regularly at club level.

🉐And he has seemingly found that in moving to Southampton who will be looking to retain their spot in the Premier League having just come up.

🌱Having now been with the Saints for a few weeks, Ramsdale has now spoken out on his time with the Gunners.

🦹“A manager’s decision is a manager’s decision,” Ramsdale told .

✤“I tried my best to change his [Arteta’s] mind and force my way back in. His mind was set and David [Raya] had a great season.

“It was tough but now I found a new home.”

What Mikel Arteta said about Aaron Ramsdale leaving Arsenal

💦Last season, Ramsdale made 11 appearances across all competitions where he racked up 990 minutes of action.

🉐A total of 540 of those minutes came in the Premier League and Ramsdale was only able to make two league appearances beyond early September.

🐷And two of those 90 minutes came in the games against Brentford where Raya was unable to play against his parent side.

But Ramsdale left on good terms with Mikel Arteta wishing him the absolute best at Southampton.

༒“Aaron has been a top professional since joining in 2021 and has made many contributions during his time with us,” he told the club .

🥀“We thank Aaron for everything he gave to Arsenal and we wish him and his family the best of health, success and happiness in his new opportunity with Southampton.”
