Aaron Lennon predicts the two signings he thinks Tottenham could make in the January transfer window after defeat to Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur have a lot of work to do in wake of their disappointing North London derby defeat.

Spurs now sit 13th in the Premier League table and are without a win in the competition since mid-December.

With the January transfer window now open, Tottenham have the opportunity to make more signings in order to strengthen their ranks.

Tottenham cult hero Aaron Lennon has now spoken about the state of affairs at Spurs and predicted the two signings the club could make this month.

Aaron Lennon backs Tottenham to sign centre-back and striker

Lennon, speaking on BBC’s Football Daily podcast after Wednesday night’s loss, began by saying the club’s injury situation has definitely been a massive factor.

He then praised the players that have come in, such as Djed Spence and Archie Gray, before predicting that Tottenham could sign a new centre-back and another striker.

“It’s 100 percent been a massive factor,” said Lennon. “You’re not talking about one or two fringe players, you’re talking about your key players here.

“You’re talking about your number-one goalkeeper, you’re talking about your two centre-halves, [Destiny] Udogie out, three of your back four are out, including your goalkeeper.

“That would affect any team, the boys that have come in have been brilliant.

“Spence has looked really good, I’m surprised he’s not played more football looking at how good he’s been in these past few weeks.

“The interesting thing to see now is will Spurs look to bolster their squad in this January window.

“They need the cover at the back, they’ve shown they don’t have the cover there. Archie Gray has been filling in, he’s not a centre-half, he’s not even a right-back.

“I think they’ll be looking to cover centre-half and possibly maybe even another striker.

“Richarlison came back on today. They’ve shown today and over the season that the squad needs strengthening.”

Who Tottenham could sign in the January transfer window

In terms of defenders, Tottenham have been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Ko Itakura, who has been likened to Spurs cult hero Jan Vertonghen.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Milan Skriniar is also said to be a target for Tottenham.

In terms of strikers, Tottenham wanted Randal Kolo Muani on loan from PSG, but Kolo Muani is now set to sign for Juventus instead.

Viktor GyokeresLiam Delap and Jonathan David have been named as alternative options up front for Spurs, according to Ben Jacobs.

It has also been reported that David, Rayan Cherki and Evann Guessand have been offered to Tottenham by their respective agents.
