‘A shining light’, ‘we are so proud’: Some Leeds fans react to player’s Twitter message
A number of Leeds United fans have praised Liam Cooper’s response to a Whites supporter on Twitter with regards to the Elland Road players, coaching staff and senior management volunteering to take a wage deferral in wake of the global health crisis.
English football ground to a halt on 13 March with the Premier League, along with the EFL and the WSL, announcing that their leagues would be suspended until 3 April at the earliest – a hiatus since extended indefinitely.
While the battle against the disease is the most pressing concern for the nation, the knock-on effect on the country’s economy and people’s livelihoods is also a battle that needs to be fought.

With no football currently being played, there are very few incomings for clubs at present, while outgoings – such as staff wages – are still needing to be paid.
Leeds said in a club that the lack of fixtures, cancellation of events, impact on ancillary revenue and closure of the football financing market is expected to cost the club several million pounds each month.
However, in order to ensure that all 272 full-time non-football staff at Leeds can continue to be paid and the integrity of the business can be maintained during this period, the players, coaching staff and senior management team have volunteered to take a wage deferral for the foreseeable future.
One Leeds fan tweeted Cooper to thank him for his and his teammates’ generosity, and his heartwarming reply led to more supporters singing his and their club’s praises:
All in this together Peter! Every single one of us. We are in a fortunate position and that allows us to help in any way possible.. Just stay safe and Save Lives.. MOT
