‘A genuine legend’: These Rangers fans salute key player after Ibrox announcement
Few have made as significant a contribution to Rangers’ title success this season as Allan McGregor.
At the age of 39, his powers show no signs of diminishing. In fact, there’s an argument to be made for this being one of the most impressive periods of his career.
His consistency and ability to pull off superb stops when called upon have underpinned an extremely impressive record of just 10 goals conceded in 33 league matches by Steven Gerrard’s men.
It was in Europe, though, that he delivered his standout moment of the season. In the dying moments of their Europa League round of 16 first leg against Slavia Prague, he somehow managed to keep out a header with a save that had Ibrox legend Ally McCoist reminiscing about Gordon Banks’ iconic stop from Pele.
It’s no surprise, then, that Rangers supporters have reacted with delight to news that McGregor has extended his contract until the summer of 2022.
These fans clearly understand McGregor’s importance to their hopes of retaining the Premiership title next season.

416 appearances and counting for McGregor. Just overtaken Bobby Shearer, Eric Caldow, Jimmy Smith & Willie Thornton. With Richard Gough and Barry Ferguson only 12 appearances ahead of him. That's the arena he's operating in – a genuine legend.

Speaking on after signing the extension, McGregor said: “I didn’t really need convincing. It was more that my body felt okay and performances seemed okay, so why not?
“You get to love the place and you feel like it is your home.
“You know everybody that works here – not that I didn’t at other places – but I just feel like it is my home and there is no other way to describe it.”
