£9m player now tempted to join Everton before Friday’s deadline after Toffees made contact

Everton have been busy this summer – although Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell could still make another addition before Friday’s deadline.

The Toffees have already signed Asmir Begovic, Jesper Lindstrom, Jake O’Brien, Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam to beef up the squad, with a sixth signing now potentially on the way to Goodison Park.

So, who is tempted to join Everton? Let’s take a look…

Gonzalo Montiel willing to join Everton

Maximo de la Cruz Ramirez Ramirez – a journalist close to Sevilla – has now provided an update on Everton and Gonzalo Montiel.

The journalist claims that the Argentina international’s camp have confirmed Everton are trying to sign their client, and he does not believe a move to Goodison Park is “a bad idea” at this stage of the summer.

It comes after claimed that Everton made contact with Sevilla to ask about Montiel on Monday, with Dyche desperate to sign a new right-back.

Roman Dixon was even handed a shock debut on the right of defence in Saturday’s 4-0 defeat against Tottenham, after Ashley Young picked up a red card in the 3-0 loss to Brighton, emphasising how little depth is in that area currently.

Enquiry for Argentina international suggests Kieran Tripper is not an option anymore

Before rumours about Everton and Montiel emerged, a story from claimed that Everton wanted to sign Kieran Trippier from Newcastle, after the England international lost the captaincy to Bruno Guimaraes.

The Newcastle No.2 only has 11 months remaining on his contract, and seemed certain to leave.

However, Eddie Howe is determined to keep Trippier at Newcastle and does not want to lose the 33-year-old to Everton, so the latest rumours about Montiel would suggest that Thelwell is moving on from the man from Bury.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as a deal for Everton to sign Montiel – who Sevilla bought from River Plate for (£9m) back in August 2021 – looks to be on.
