Ben Foster says Liverpool ‘definitely have spoken’ to £34m player over a new contract

Liverpool have enjoyed the perfect start to the 2024/25 campaign with three wins from a possible three.

Arne Slot‘s side second in the Premier League table only behind Manchester City on goal difference with the two club’s both on maximum points.

The latest victory for Liverpool came in what was supposed to be their toughest challenge yet away to Manchester United.

However, the Reds were able to breeze past Erik ten Hag’s side with Mohamed Salah picking up his usual goal against United.

Salah is just one the big name players who Liverpool fans will be sweating over the future of with the Egyptian in the final months of his deal.

But former United goalkeeper Ben Foster believes the Merseyside club will already have opened talks over the future of one player, in particular.

Ben Foster expects Liverpool contract talks to be ongoing

The game on Sunday was the fixture which many fans will have been waiting for to truly judge Slot with Liverpool.

And it was apparent Liverpool are still one of the very top sides in the Premier League as they cruised to all three points.

With the Reds looking in safe hands under Slot, the major concern now is surrounding Salah’s future at Liverpool.

Speaking on his channel after the game, Foster admitted he fully expects talks to have already taken place between Salah and the club over a new deal.

“They (Liverpool) definitely have spoken to him. 100% they have spoken to him. There’s no way a player like Mo Salah gets to this stage of his contract at Liverpool and nothing has been said to him about it,” he said.

“Liverpool might sort of assume that he’s happy or they might already know that he has had an incredible offer from Saudi or something like that.”

What Mohamed Salah said about his Liverpool future

Having capped off the scoring against the Red Devils, Salah provided some comments after the game which will have concerned some Liverpool fans.

The forward is now in the final year of his contract at Anfield with the Reds looking set to lose him for free at the end of the season.

And what Salah told after the game will not have provided the fans with much optimism of seeing him in Red again next season.

“I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive because as you know, it’s my last year at the club,” he said.

“I just want to enjoy it and I don’t want to think about it. I feel like I’m free to play football and then we’ll see what happens next year.”
