83.8 percent passing accuracy, 7 accurate long balls, one Arsenal player shone against Saints

Arsenal may have flattered to deceive once again in their latest Premier League game, but one Gunners player was particularly impressive in a sea of red-and-white mediocrity.

Mikel Arteta’s charges remain a lowly 15th in the table and only have one win from their last nine games, though one positive – if you can call it that – is that they’ve ended a three-match losing run.

Arsenal played out a 1-1 draw with Southampton at the Emirates Stadium, having to come from behind after former Gunner Theo Walcott opened the scoring in the 18th minute.

The Gunners drew level through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – his first goal in six games – for a share of the spoils, though they once again finished the game with ten men after Gabriel was booked twice in ten minutes.

Aubameyang, Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah emerged with credit for their displays on the night, while Rob Holding put in a really good performance at the back.

One of the few Gunners players talking throughout, the 25-year-old’s distribution and defending stood out as he helped weather the storm at the end, and even hit the woodwork late on.

Holding’s from the game make for pleasant reading – 83.8 percent passing accuracy, two interceptions, five clearances, one blocked shot, five aerials won and seven accurate long balls.

Indeed, gave him an impressive 7.35 rating, behind only Nketiah at 7.44.

Arteta may be coming under increasing scrutiny for his side’s downturn in form but his decision to keep Holding amid interest from Newcastle looks an inspired one.
