£75m player is ‘keen’ to leave his club and join Liverpool this summer

Liverpool could well complete one big signing before the transfer window shuts.

The Reds, surprisingly, have had a very quiet summer so far. They haven’t signed a single player yet, which is a shock as everyone expected Arne Slot to make some moves.

The new Premier League season is just two weeks away now, and the transfer window closes in less than a month’s time.

Liverpool are running out of time, but ESPN journalist Mark Ogden believes one big deal could still happen this summer.

Anthony Gordon is ‘keen’ to join Liverpool

The Anthony Gordon transfer saga has been eventful this summer.

Liverpool have been interested in the former Everton man, and Newcastle United’s issues with PSR opened the door for the Reds to sign him.

have revealed that Liverpool almost signed Gordon for £75 million a few weeks ago. Joe Gomez would’ve headed to St James’ Park in a separate £45 million deal.

However, the two transfers collapsed after Newcastle managed to get on the right side of PSR by selling Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton.

Liverpool still retain an interest in Gordon, and Ogden has revealed that the winger is ‘keen’ on a move to Anfield too this summer.

That’s why the journalist believes this deal might still go through before the window shuts later in August.

Ogden said on : “Anthony Gordon is a player that Liverpool like and I think that deal might happen before the window closes at the end of August.

“Well, Newcastle would get the money to come in and add to the squad in terms of signing players. Newcastle, like a lot of clubs, are not struggling with PSR but they need to move people around.

“Liverpool are keen on Anthony Gordon and Anthony Gordon I have been told he’s keen on going to Liverpool, so I think that is a deal that we have got a month to go before the window closes.

“Liverpool need to get some players in. You can’t change the manager, a big manager like Klopp, and not bring players in.”

Gomez’s stance on leaving Liverpool for Newcastle

Even though the discussions that took place between Liverpool and Newcastle weren’t technically about a swap deal, the two moves were dependent on each other.

That’s the reason why Gomez to Newcastle fell through after the Toon decided against selling Gordon.

The Athletic reveal that the defender made it clear to Liverpool that he was open to moving to St James’ Park, where he would get regular game time in his preferred right-centre-back position.

The report added that Gomez is still set to consider his options in the coming months, which leaves the door open for Liverpool to try and include him in a deal to sign Gordon.

However, it remains to be seen if Newcastle will be willing to sell him in the next few weeks.
