‘7/10’, ‘created trouble’: Media hails 22-year-old Leeds talent for his display v Brisbane Roar

Leeds United got their tour of Australia off to a winning start as they beat Brisbane Road 2-1 in Queensland.

Jesse Marsch’s charges had the ball in the back of the net after 20 seconds.

However, the flag went up to rule out Leeds debutant Brenden Aaronson’s effort.

Robin Koch and Rasmus Kristensen also had early efforts on goal, but neither managed to break the deadlock.

The breakthrough came on 23 minutes through Daniel James.

He found the bottom corner after good work from Adam Forshaw.

And just two minutes later, Leeds had doubled their advantage.

Forshaw and James combined once again, the latter crossing for Joe Gelhardt to rise above the Brisbane defende and head home.

The hosts got back into the game through a close-range Joe Knowles effort for a 2-1 half-time scoreline.

Brisbane had several chances to equalise in the second half, while Leeds threatened through Gelhardt, Diego Llorente and Pascal Struijk.

In the end, neither side could add to the scoresheet, and Leeds hung on for their first points of the Queensland Champions Cup.

It was a decent display from the Whites, with several players standing out.

Alongside the likes of James and Gelhardt, second-half substitute Leif Davis put in a good performance.

“Got forward at every opportunity”

The 22-year-old spent last season out on loan at Bournemouth, who also had an option to buy.

The Cherries didn’t take up the option, and Leeds now look to be benefiting from their decision.

Jesse Marsch admitted pre-match that he and his coaches were “looking very closely” at Davis this summer.

“We think he’s done really well,” the Leeds boss said, .

And Marsch will have been happy with Davis’ latest outing.

gave Davis 7/10 and wrote: “Came on at half-time and produced a few tidy moments.

“He got forward at every opportunity and created trouble.”

Likewise, the also rated him 7/10.

“Enjoyed lots of involvement, got forward well and linked up effectively,” they wrote.

“Couldn’t get free enough to create something telling.”
