68% passing accuracy… £2m Celtic summer signing had a nightmare against St Johnstone

The second half of Celtic’s win over St Johnstone more than made up for the turgid display that the fans had to watch as Brendan Rodgers’ side went in at half-time 1-0 down.

The Celtic manager made it clear that the standards some of his players set in that first 45 minutes were simply not good enough.

And one of those players in particular seriously struggled against one of the Scottish Premiership‘s poorest teams.

Hyunjun Yang was taken off at the break and replaced by Mikey Johnston and the impact that change had was instantaneous.

Johnston’s skill and trickery on the wing helped unlock the St Johnstone defence and the Hoops ran out eventual 3-1 winners.

Had Yang stayed on the pitch, the outcome may well have been a lot different.

Hyunjun Yang’s Celtic stats vs St Johnstone

Rated a 6.4 by , Yang put in a performance he is likely to want to forget. Having just 33 touches of the ball, the £2m summer signing achieved a passing accuracy of just 68%.

Yang only created one chance and made just two passes into the final third of the pitch. The 21-year-old was also dispossessed twice and found himself in the offside position three times as he misjudged his positioning time after time.

Defensively, Yang wasn’t much better. The Korean only won one of his four duels, made one clearance and just two ball recoveries.

The winger only made one attempt at a tackle, which he lost, and made just two defensive actions during a period where St Johnstone was on the ascendency.

Yang has struggled to find a decent run of form this season. He had been decent against the likes of St Mirren and Aberdeen of late but has failed to find any kind of consistency which would make him a first-pick for Brendan Rodgers.

December is a month where the football comes thick and fast. With Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda due to return from injury soo, Yang will need to get his finger out if he wants to make a career for himself at Celtic.
