66 touches, 47 passes, 5 clearances – Everton have a player with a truly exciting future at Goodison

Everton lost further ground in the race for Europe in last night’s Premier League stalemate.

The Toffees headed to Brighton hoping to end a run of three league games without a win, but could only pick up a point in a dour 0-0 draw.

Everton were missing top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin due to injury, and they failed to register a shot on target in the first half, with just one in the second.

Brighton controlled the game for the most part, and though Everton sprung a late rally in a bid to grab all three points, Alex Iwobi fired over the bar.

The Toffees’ season promised so much at the start but now seems to be petering out, with seven points separating them from the top four.

However, one player emerged from last night’s game with a lot of credit – Ben Godfrey.

The rated him 7 out of 10 – the joint highest in the Everton ranks alongside Tom Davies.

“Stopped Danny Welbeck with one of the best tackles you are likely to see this season,” they wrote.

“But that seems like a weekly ritual now for the defender. The signing of the summer at this stage.”

Defensively, Godfrey was superb with two tackles, one interception, five clearances and two blocked shots, as per .

He also had one shot, took 66 touches of the ball – the highest in the team, made 47 passes and played five long balls.

Godfrey’s maiden season at Everton has been superb and, with a contract until 2025, Carlo Ancelotti has a player with a truly exciting future at Goodison Park.
