‘5m and you can have him’: Some Spurs fans react to apparent interest in ‘fantastic’ 22-year-old

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have given their thoughts on Nathan Jones suggesting that he’s open to signing Cameron Carter-Vickers permanently.

The 22-year-old Spurs academy graduate spent the second half of last season on loan at Luton, who were at the bottom of the Championship at the time of his arrival.

Carter-Vickers’ displays helped not only shore up a previously frail Hatters defence but also proved crucial in the club pulling off a great escape and surviving in the second tier.

Luton were 10 points from safety in February but managed to see off Blackburn 3-2 on the final day to finish three points clear of the drop zone, with Carter-Vickers once again impressing.

“Cam’s a great lad and a fantastic player to play with,” captain Sonny Bradley told last month.

“He just knows what he’s doing, plenty of talking and I feel comfortable next to him.

“Cam’s been excellent… he’s come in, another player with a great attitude, a big future and right now we’re lucky to have him.”

Now, Hatters boss Jones claimed that, while he isn’t interested in any more loan signings, he’s not ruling out moving for the United States international again.

“It might not rule out going back in for Cameron, but what we don’t like doing is loans, so you can work your own way out from that,” he told .

“We prefer our own players as when we add value to players which we believe we do add value, we’d like that value to be ours, that’s what we do.”

Prior to this summer, Carter-Vickers didn’t look like being in contention for the Tottenham first team and, with his contract expiring next year, his time at Spurs looked to be running out.

However, Jose Mourinho has given him game time in pre-season, including in Saturday’s friendly against Birmingham, where he did well.

But what have Spurs fans made of Jones’ comments on their player? Below is some of the social media reaction:
