57-year-old manager believes he’ll be a contender for Manchester United job if Erik ten Hag leaves

Julen Lopetegui sees himself as a contender should either Manchester United or West Ham find themselves on the lookout for a new manager.

It seems that Julen Lopetegui did have the chance to make a return to the Premier League, with reporting that Nottingham Forest sounded the Spaniard out amid doubts over Steve Cooper’s future.

Cooper has now left the City Ground. But it is Nuno Espírito Santo closing in on coming in as his successor.

According to The Telegraph, the 57-year-old is holding out for a bigger job. And it is suggested that he sees himself being in contention for the Manchester United or West Ham job.

Spaniard will surely be mentioned if positions become available

Erik ten Hag is certainly struggling to silence his doubters at Old Trafford. His first year in the Premier League seemed promising. But it is hard to argue that Manchester United have made any progress this season.

Danny Murphy suggested that it is a matter of when, rather than if, ten Hag leaves. And it seems that Lopetegui thinks that he could be a contender if the Dutchman does go.

West Ham meanwhile, have turned their form around lately. They have won seven of their last nine games in all competitions. And they are climbing the Premier League table.

However, there is a possibility that David Moyes will leave West Ham at the end of the season. Moyes has done an incredible job at the London Stadium. But it does appear that a change may benefit the Hammers, given the quality they now have.

Lopetegui was not at Wolves for long. But he did a very decent job at Molineux. He has also been appointed by Real Madrid and the Spanish national team in the past. And he won the Europa League in 2020.

So his name will surely come up if the two clubs do end up looking for another manager in the coming months.
