£56m player has now told Manchester United he wants to sign for Arsenal

Arsenal’s summer transfer window is yet to really get going.

While Liverpool and Manchester City have both made numerous signings already this summer, Arsenal are yet to bring a new body through the door.

However, that isn’t to say that Andrea Berta isn’t hard at work scouring the market for opportunities.

Indeed, Martin Zubimendi is set to join Arsenal at some point, while Kepa Arrizabalaga should join Arsenal this summer too.

Of course, Arsenal’s top priority is to sign a new striker, and according to Fabrizio Romano, one of the Gunners’ top targets has made it clear he wants to come to the Emirates.

Romano shared what he knows about the Gyokeres situation.

Gyokeres has been strongly linked with Arsenal, and according to Romano, that is the striker’s preferred move.

In fact, the journalist says Gyokeres has now told one of his other suitors, Manchester United, that he wants to join Arsenal.

Arsenal bid £56m to sign Gyokeres recently, but an agreement has yet to be reached.

“Viktor Gyokeres remains a priority and his priority remains Arsenal. He wants to go to Arsenal, he wants to play Champions League football for Arsenal. He never rejected Manchester United but he told Manchester United that his priority would be Arsenal, so let’s follow that situation,” Romano said.

Viktor Gyokeres’ record under Ruben Amorim

This is a dagger blow for Manchester United as Gyokeres could’ve been a perfect signing for the Red Devils.

Indeed, United need a goalscorer, and Gyokeres certainly knows how to find the back of the net, particularly in a Ruben Amorim team.

Gyokeres worked under Amorim at Sporting before his move to Manchester United, and he had a stellar record under the Portuguese boss.

Unfortunately for United, it would appear that Gyokeres is now more likely to link up with Mikel Arteta than reunite with Amorim.

United certainly need a new striker, and they may have to go back to the drawing board to figure this one out.
