£55m striker has agreed to join Tottenham this summer, Ange Postecoglou wants him to replace Harry Kane

Ange Postecoglou has reportedly identified his ‘priority’ striker target as he bids to replace former Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane this summer.

Tottenham opted for a more versatile option in Brennan Johnson last summer, while also strengthening with the additions of Timo Werner and Manor Solomon.

Heung-min Son performed well in a central role and finished the campaign with 17 Premier League goals to his name. But there’s no getting away from the fact that Spurs are lacking an out-and-out striker.

There are plenty of names on the market for Ange Postecoglou to consider, with Spurs already linked with moves for the likes of Santiago Gimenez and Ivan Toney.

And according to , Postecoglou has decided he wants Spurs to sign the latter.

Ivan Toney agrees personal terms with Tottenham

The outlet claims that Spurs have had a £40 million bid for Toney turned down by Brentford, with the Bees looking for a fee worth £65 million.

However, it’s noted that a £55 million bid would likely secure a deal for Tottenham.

Toney has apparently verbally agreed personal terms with Postecoglou’s men and the Aussie has identified the England star as his ‘priority target’ to replace Kane.

Football Transfers adds that talks over a move for the 28-year-old are expected to continue over the coming weeks.

Toney would be ideal for Postecoglou

Despite an unconvincing run of form after returning to action for Brentford last season, Toney seems like the ideal replacement for Kane.

The striker only netted four times in 17 Premier League appearances last term following his nine-month ban from football.

But his all-round game would lend itself well to Tottenham’s style of play due to his ability to hold up the ball and bring his teammates into play.

With just a year left on his contract, you’d imagine that Spurs will be looking to land Toney at a cut price. Whether or not Brentford lower their demands for remains to be seen.
