£50m Arsenal player’s starting place is under threat, Arteta doesn’t see him as long-term option
Amid talk of potential transfer moves for January and beyond, a surprise bit of insight on Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad has emerged.
When discussing a potential move for Jeremie Frimpong in the future, had some interesting information on Arsenal’s right-back situation.

, Mikel Arteta sees neither Ben White or Takehiro Tomiyasu as the long-term first-choice right back at the club.
Surprising news given how well both have fared in the position.
If the source is to be believed, that is perhaps an ode to both being envisioned at centre-back, however, that would be surprising in Tomiayasu’s case.
Ben White was initially signed as a centre-back, before being needed out wide predominantly.
However, when he started the season alongside William Saliba in the middle, it seemed to signify a significant change.
Jurrien Timber’s arrival provided greater versatility across the back line, and White was back in his familiar role.
Of course, that did all change after Timber’s untimely injury – one that may not be as bad as perhaps feared.
Mikel Arteta eyes right back transfer with Ben White at risk of losing his Arsenal spot
Playing at right-back for over a year now, it is perhaps debatable if that has become White’s strongest position.
Alan Shearer was immensely impressed with the full-back yesterday, calling his assist ‘perfection’.

And with Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba forming such a strong partnership together, it would be a surprise for him to displace either.
That being said, Saliba wouldn’t lose his place to anybody.
The evolution of Arsenal’s defence will be very intriguing to follow over the next year or so.
And with Arsenal scouts now watching Bayer Leverkusen’s Frimpong, Arteta may be eyeing a transfer for next summer.
This Arsenal side doesn’t currently possess a profile similar to Frimpong’s, making the addition seem a smart one.
However, it would be a big surprise if the move came at the expense of Ben White, an integral part of this improving side.
