46 passes, 5 interceptions: Rob Holding stars in Arsenal victory

There could be a fierce fight for places at the heart of Arsenal’s back four next season and in Rob Holding they have a player who is doing all he can to convince Mikel Arteta.

The 25-year-old defender was bang in form last night as the Gunners won 4-0 against Slavia Prague to reach the semi-final of the Europa League for the second time in three seasons.

Holding has been at Arsenal since 2016 when Arsene Wenger signed him from Bolton for a small fee of He has taken some time to settle at the club but is now making a statement.

He has made 109 appearances for the Gunners and looks to be thriving under the wing of Arteta. Holding has largely been the first choice this season and was in fine form last night.

, he made five clearances and two tackles last night, finishing the contest with an impressive pass success ratio of 91.3% of 46 passes completed.

In another interesting statistic that highlights Holding’s ability, the Gunners have kept nine clean sheets this season and the defender has played in each and every one of them.

The ex-Bolton man signed a new deal as recently as January and it looks as though he will remain a part of Arteta’s plans. He now earns £40,000-a-week at the Gunners.

With William Saliba and Konstantinos Mavropanos set to return to the Emirates Stadium in the summer, the competition looks healthy at the centre of defence.

Given his recent performances and vast improvement, it seems likely that Arteta will place his trust in Holding for many years to come.

On current form, he looks undroppable and last night he showcased just how competent he can be on his day.
