£45m Arsenal target is leaving for free after rejecting a new contract, he wants to play for Mikel Arteta

At times last season, Mikel Arteta’s attack was left wanting at Arsenal, they couldn’t quite get their side over the line when it came to winning a trophy.

From an Arsenal fan perspective, the solution seems pretty obvious — spend big money on attackers this summer.

And after the appointment of new sporting director Andrea Berta, it seems as if the Gunners plan to do exactly that.

Mikel Arteta wanted a striker in January — he made that pretty clear in his press conferences at the time.

But after waiting patiently owing to the right options not being available, Arteta will be expecting a foray of new faces this summer, ones who can help lift a Premier League title.

Leroy Sane is definitely leaving Bayern Munich amid Arsenal interest

In view of improving their attack, it recently became clear that Arsenal are interested in Leroy Sane at Bayern Munich.

Arteta knows Leroy Sane well from their time together at Manchester City, a 29-year-old who has already won the Premier League twice.

And although some fans in N5 are unconvinced on the merits of a move, partly because of the winger’s age and injury history, Sane is keen to play for Arsenal.

Fortunately, if Arsenal do want to sign Sane this summer, the situation has just become a lot easier owing to an update from German journalist Florian Plettenberg on X.

In a significant move, Sane has decided against renewing his contract with Bayern — he’s rejected their improved contract offer and he’s set to leave for free.

Sane made 30 appearances in the Bundesliga under Vincent Kompany last season, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.

And whilst there are some doubts from Arsenal supporters as mentioned, he’s clearly still a player who can thrive at the top level.

Vincent Kompany’s ‘crucial’ verdict proves Leroy Sane can thrive at Arsenal

Of course, for Sane to join Arsenal this summer, there would surely need to be adequate belief that he is an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Martinelli was superb for Brazil in the early hours of Wednesday morning, a player who still has a point to prove in an Arsenal shirt.

But when speaking back in April, Bayern boss Kompany perhaps already explained why Sane still has a lot to offer for a club like Arsenal.

Kompany said: “In recent matches, it’s been clear that Leroy is in fine form, which is why he’s frequently in the starting lineup.

“We have many talented players in our squad, and he’s one of those who have greatly contributed so far, scoring crucial goals. I have no doubt he’ll continue to deliver for us.”

And if Sane could continue to deliver for Bayern, he could certainly do so for Arsenal too.
