It was a done deal right? Celtic had Ben Davies tied up and ready to become a Bhoy. Multiple reports over the past few weeks had suggested the impressive Preston North End defender had signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic and would be joining in the summer. It seemed the absolute epitome of a ‘done deal’.
Yet, what is now clear, is that this was not and never was the case.
Davies is going to Liverpool in a £2 million deal to help solve the club’s centre-back problem.
Liverpool needed a new center half to cover injuries to several first-team players and, because of Premier League rules, he ideally needed to be British. Davies is the perfect candidate.

Celtic fans are right to feel aggrieved that Liverpool even had this opportunity.
Where is the supposed agreement Celtic had with Davies? If that was all done and signed then Liverpool’s interest would be erroneous, Davies would be a Celtic player.
However, that is not the case. Instead, Celtic fans are left livid in what is becoming a fairly embarrassing season at Parkhead.
For the past nine years, Celtic fans have had very little to be upset about but the stagnation of the club has come to a head in 2020-21. The inability to secure a deal for Davies is just the latest misstep in a campaign full of them.
It is clear to see that Celtic fans are not pleased at the news judging by the reaction on Twitter…
Honestly fair play to Ben Davies… some move. This is what happens if you can’t get deals done. At that to the list of mistakes from Celtic this season.

John McGinn, Ben Davies, Timothy Castagne, Ivan Toney , that QPR RW all could have been Celtic players. Why can’t we get deals over the line.

Let’s be a bit real for a second instead of blindly raging regarding Ben Davies. If you had no Celtic affiliation whatsoever you’d choose Liverpool over us and who is to say it’s the club being a problem and not the player or agent? Easy to blame us but no facts backing it
— Paul Mcginley (@PaulMcG1994)
Celtic won’t be getting Ben Davies then lol
— Collette (@colletteb89)
Good luck to Ben Davies going to a brilliant Liverpool team or come to celtic with a manager whos players have chucked it and doesnt know if he will be in a job next season! Dithering cost us again!

Why in all honesty would Ben Davies want to come anywhere near the utter shambles that is Glasgow Celtic? A player with potential having his career ruined by a clueless inept manager.

Just been mentioned on sky that Liverpool want him . Bye bye Ben Davies🙄
— James Mcglone (@JamesMcglone69)
Are you surprised? This is part of Lawell’s legacy thay won’t be missed, failure to sign top targets due to being to slow, penny pinching or coming across as arrogant, it’s Celtic he will sign attitude. Clearly he is a very decent defender, the exact type we need.
— Mike McV (@mmcveighbhoy7)
Ben Davies obviously has potential if Liverpool are interested. But lets be honest, Celtic are about as undesirable as we’ve ever been. Albion Rovers couldve came in for him and he wouldve changed his mind.

how many players are you going to fail to land? McGinn and others now Ben Davies. Laughing stocks from top to bottom.
