£4.6m player given permission to join Leeds United on transfer deadline day after Ao Tanaka is announced
Leeds United look set to be very busy on transfer deadline day.
After securing the signing of Manor Solomon on loan from Tottenham earlier this week, Leeds United have also agreed a deal to sign Ao Tanaka from Fortuna Dusseldorf – a player who has been compared to Jude Bellingham.
UPDATE: The Japan international’s arrival at Elland Road has now been announced – he will wear the No.22 shirt and is eligible to face Hull City on Saturday.
Furthermore, the Whites have also made contact to sign Roland Sallai from SC Freiburg.
Now – however – Leeds United have been given permission to complete a separate deal…
St Gallen agree to let Isaac Schmidt join Leeds United
A story from the (10:50am) now states that St Gallen have given Isaac Schmidt permission to undergo a medical with Leeds United.
It is said that a £4.6m fee has been agreed for the Swiss wing-back, who scored against Trabzonspor on Thursday as St Gallen overcame the Turkish side in the UEFA Conference League Play-Off second leg.

It comes after Mike McGrath of the Telegraph revealed that an agreement between Leeds United and St Gallen for Schmidt was “close” – even before that UEFA Conference League clash kicked off.
The Mirror add that Leeds United have also agreed to pay the Swiss side more in performance related add-ons, which includes a bonus payment if Daniel Farke guides the Whites back into the Premier League.
Daniel Farke will be getting a seriously versatile footballer
Every manager loves a versatile player, and Farke will surely adore Schmidt’s versatility.
The 24-year-old has remarkably played all over the pitch throughout his career, primarily appearing in a left wing-back role with appearances in that area.
However – as Transfermarkt shows – Schmidt has even played as a striker, central midfielder, defensive midfielder and also on the right of defence.

The only positions the man from Lausanne has not been deployed in are central defence and in goal.
Therefore, Schmidt should prove to be a very valuable asset for Farke throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
Be sure to keep an eye on further developments, as Leeds United could announce his arrival imminently…
