£38m defender is the player Newcastle are closest to signing right now

Newcastle United haven’t exactly hit the ground running in this summer transfer window so far, but incomings are expected in the coming weeks.

Newcastle have made just one signing for a fee, bringing in Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest in a move that reeks of Profit and Sustainability loophole exploitation.

Lloyd Kelly and John Ruddy have also arrived on free transfers, but, other than that, there’s not been much to be excited about.

, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Newcastle’s transfer plans, and he was asked which player is currently closest to signing for the Magpies.

According to the journalist, AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw, is the closest player to signing for Newcastle at the moment.

Malick Thiaw the closest player to joining Newcastle

Jacobs shared what he knows about the man.

“Who is our strongest link at the minute. Who would you say has the strongest chance of arriving?” Jacobs was asked.

“I would say Malick Thiaw is probably the one because Newcastle have been working on that for quite some time. We’re not talking about interest or admiration, which I know fans hate, we’re talking a formal offer sooner rather than later. That for me is the most concrete link at the moment,” Jacobs said.

Newcastle need more additions

Malick Thiaw joining Newcastle would be a solid start, but make no mistake about it, Newcastle need more bodies through the door.

Indeed, Eddie Howe’s side need reinforcements in numerous positions.

Newcastle need a new right winger, especially if Miguel Almiron’s proposed move to Saudi Arabia goes ahead.

Meanwhile, Callum Wilson’s repeated injury issues may also mean that Newcastle need a new striker. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been linked with a move to Tyneside.

With just over a month left in the transfer window, Newcastle need to get the ball rolling in terms of incoming transfers.
