The January transfer window is open, and Tottenham have work to do.

The north London club’s lack of defensive depth is there for all to see.

Ben Davies and Emerson Royal have been starting at centre-back as of late, and it doesn’t take a footballing genius to tell you why that’s a bit of a problem.

Top of the agenda for Tottenham this month is signing a new centre-half, and there are a couple of options that Spurs have been looking at.

Radu Dragusin is said to have agreed personal terms with Spurs, but according to , Tottenham also have their eyes on another option.

Jean-Clair Todibo is said to be a player Spurs are very keen on. In fact, according to this report, Tottenham have made a very concrete move for the defender and are pulling out all the stops to try and sign him.

According to this report, Todibo is really convinced by Tottenham’s project, but, as ever, the story is a bit more complicated than that.

Indeed, this deal won’t be easy to do.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be keen, while Nice are in no rush to sell.

Tottenham also, understandably, want to get this deal done quickly, but with both Chelsea and United also involved, this has the hallmark of a saga that could drag on and on.

FootMercato report that Tottenham will quickly fall back to Dragusin if this deal takes too long, and, in our view, that may be a likely outcome.

Todibo has been touted as a player in the past, and he has been brilliant in Ligue 1 over the past few years, so this is a signing worth waiting for, but time is of the essence for Tottenham in a portion of the season where every point counts in their quest to finish in the top four.

Spurs’ hunt for a centre-back continues, and this is a situation to keep an eye on.
