£35m Liverpool player says he knows people are unhappy with his efforts at Anfield
One Liverpool player has been asked a rather uncomfortable question during the international break.
The man in question was asked for his thoughts after being told that some have been critical of his impact at Anfield, and went on to say that he is actually aware of people feeling underwhelmed by his efforts.
So, which Liverpool player was involved in the awkward exchange? Let’s take a look…
Cody Gakpo admits he knows people feel underwhelmed by his efforts at Liverpool
Well, it was Cody Gakpo who had to deal with the difficult question.
Chris Sutton is one pundit who has criticised the Dutchman, saying that the Liverpool No.18 looked like he had his boots on the wrong feet during the recent 4-3 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.
Jamie Carragher has also questioned Gakpo – while Steve Nicol thinks the Netherlands international is not good enough to start for Liverpool.
When asked what he thinks about comments like these, the 24-year-old : “I personally wasn’t that concerned.
“I am aware of the situations that have occurred and that are occurring and the expectations. I am someone who always looks at, what can I do better and how can I develop myself? That is still the case today.
“There are things that are going well and things that are not going so well that I have to develop that can be developed and I am fully engaged in that, and I am not really concerned with whether that transition has been successful anymore.”

Gakpo has scored goals – while also providing five assists – in 42 appearances so far this season.
In total, the man from Eindhoven has scored goals in 68 appearances for Liverpool – assisting a further eight.
Not a problem
The likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane set the bar so high at Anfield, that even a decent signing like Gakpo is viewed as being underwhelming.
The man has been a solid addition at Anfield, and while it can definitely be argued that he has room for improvement, the attacker has been far from a poor signing.

Gakpo has time on his side at the age of 24 – and will perhaps benefit from starting afresh under a new manager this summer, who may have a clearer vision of how to get the best from him.
After all, if things still do not work out in a year or two, Liverpool are unlikely to make a major loss on their initial investment, as that £35m fee was something of a bargain in today’s market.
