£35m Liverpool player mocked by nation’s media after his latest display for his country

A key Liverpool player has been mocked by the media following his latest international display.

Liverpool have a total of nine players heading to Euro 2024⭕ this summer, with many of them expected to play key roles in the tournament.

Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai🌞 will captain Scotland, the Netherlands and Hungary, respectively.

The Reds have a particularly strong Dutch contingent, with Van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch all set to head to the tournament in Germany.

🦂Ronald Koeman’s men played their final warm-up game ahead of the Euros last night and picked up a 4-0 win over Iceland.

ꦍVan Dijk got on the scoresheet and Gakpo got 75 minutes under his belt while Gravenberch was an unused substitute.

𓂃Despite an impressive display from the Liverpool skipper, Gakpo has received criticism from the Dutch media.

Cody Gakpo mocked by media after latest international display

𝕴Gakpo was replaced by Donyell Malen in the 75th minute and were far from impressed with the Liverpool star’s display.

꧒The outlet handed him a five out of 10 rating and claimed his best moment of the game was handing his jacket to the mascot.

🔜They wrote: “Gakpo could not demonstrate that Koeman has no way around him. Keeping a player mascot warm during the Wilhelmus by giving away his training jacket was his best action of the evening.”

🌺 were slightly less harsh on Gakpo, handing him a six out of 10 after his display against Iceland.

🌸But the outlet did note that the man had a ‘quiet’ game in the final third.

Gakpo’s stats vs Iceland

🃏While the media were particularly critical of Gakpo’s display, the statistics tell a slightly different story.

ಞ handed the forward a 7.8 match rating, making him the Netherlands’ third-best player on the night. Only Van Dijk and Joey Veerman picked up higher ratings.
