£34m player who Mikel Arteta ‘underused’ tipped to be a ‘revelation’ at new club after leaving Arsenal

A long-serving Arsenal star who is set to officially seal a transfer in the coming days has been tipped to make a massive impression at his new club.

The Gunners have already signed Riccardo Calafiori and are locked in talks to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad to bolster their ranks in midfield, while there have also been talks that they could snap up an attacker before the conclusion of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal have also been active in terms of outgoings as they aim to trim their squad to fund potential signings, with Albert Sambi Lokonga, Nuno Tavares, Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares leaving the club permanently or on loan.

Emile Smith Rowe is another player who has been linked with an exit.

While Arsenal fans adore him as he’s a Hale End product, Smith Rowe’s £34m move to Fulham is set to be confirmed imminently.

Ahead of his move to Craven Cottage, the Englishman has been tipped to succeed at the club by Stan Collymore, who also played for the club briefly on loan in 1999.

Collymore backs Smith Rowe to hit the ground running at Fulham

Collymore believes Smith Rowe was underutilised by Mikel Arteta at Arsenal but believes the youngster is making the right move to get his career back on track.

In his column for , Collymore said: “Fulham’s a great club, they’ve got all of the facilities that a high-profile player would want, and Emile Smith Rowe wouldn’t have to move very far.”

Collymore believes Smith Rowe can be a ‘revelation’ at Craven Cottage provided he doesn’t feel he’s too big for his shoes by thinking he took a step down by joining Fulham.

He continued: “I think it’s just a case of he’s been underused, and when you have a manager like Mikel Arteta, just as he did with Aaron Ramsdale, once you cross the line into being a player that he doesn’t want, he’s not one of those that goes ‘everybody’s got a clean slate here, and we’re going to use lots of different players during the season,’ Arteta has got his ideas who he wants, and based on the ones that he doesn’t want, he expects them then to be moved on fairly quickly.

“I think Fulham will be a revelation for Smith Rowe, and as long as he doesn’t go ‘I’ve come down a step because I was at Arsenal, now I’m at Fulham,’ everything is there for him to progress.”

Smith Rowe right to leave Arsenal in search of regular game time

Arsenal have come along quite well under Arteta over the last two seasons and are set to be in the reckoning for the Premier League title once again in the 2024-25 campaign.

While the club are back amongst Europe’s elite and are fighting for the biggest honours, Smith Rowe’s career has stagnated due to a combination of injuries and Arteta preferring other options in midfield over him.

Last season, the 24-year-old made just 13 appearances in the Premier League, out of which only three were starts. He also failed to find the back of the net in 19 appearances across all competitions, registering a measly two assists.

While Arsenal would have felt a sense of reluctance to part with one of their own, the harsh reality is that Smith Rowe has flattered to deceive in recent seasons, so a transfer makes sense for all parties involved.
