£30m Tottenham player now left out of UEFA Europa League squad after reports he wanted to join Man United

Ange Postecoglou has now left £45m worth of talent out of the UEFA Europa League squad at Tottenham.

The Australian is embarking on his first taste of European football at Spurs this season – after Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini failed to qualify for any competition in the 2022/23 campaign.

As Ange Postecoglou submits his UEFA Europa League squad, two Tottenham players – one of whom wanted to join Manchester United during the summer transfer window – have been left out…

Djed Spence and Sergio Reguilon left out by Tottenham

Both Djed Spence and Sergio Reguilon have been overlooked by Postecoglou for the UEFA Europa League this season.

The signing from Middlesbrough in July 2022 and the addition from Real Madrid in September 2020 will now have to rely on the domestic cup competitions for playing time, as they seem unlikely to get any Premier League minutes at Spurs either.

It comes after Fabrizio Romano claimed that Reguilon was “really” keen to join Manchester United before last Friday’s 11pm deadline, having spent time on loan at Old Trafford last season.

In regards to Spence, his exclusion comes as more of a shock, given how the Londoner performed in pre-season.

In case you missed it, Postecoglou publicly praised Spence for the way in which he conducted himself this summer, although it does not seem as if the 24-year-old did enough to fully convince the man born in Greece.

Spurs needed to give the duo a platform to shine somewhere

Tottenham really ought to have found loan moves for Spence and Reguilon if Postecoglou has no intention of using them.

As aforesaid, there is £45m worth of talent in the duo, and a decent loan switch for either of them could enhance their value considerably.

After all, Spence is still only 24, while Reguilon is 27, so they are still in their prime years as footballers.

Now, it is looking like a case of Tottenham just accepting whatever they get offered for the pair in January, rather than giving them a platform to restore their respective valuations.
