£30m-rated striker linked with Tottenham has claimed he is an Arsenal fan in the past

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly rivalling Newcastle United and Aston Villa for AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek as the north Londoners look to bring in cover for Harry Kane – but they may be put off by the striker’s Arsenal revelation last year.

that Tottenham have joined Newcastle and Villa in the race for the 24-year-old, who has fallen down the pecking order at Milan – after Milan brought Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to the club earlier this month.

Poland international Piatek is still very highly-rated in Italy, after scoring a huge 30 goals for two different sides during 2018-19. Scoring 19 in 21 games for Genoa, Piatek earned a move to Milan in January 2019 and scored another 11 in 21.

But this season, he has netted just four in 18 games. That has not put Spurs off, though – but Piatek’s comments from early on in 2019 may make Jose Mourinho’s side think again, as the striker claimed he is an Arsenal supporter.

“When I was a child I was an Arsenal fan. I loved the style of Wenger and I admired players like Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp,” Piatek told Italian newspaper Tuttosport back in March 2019,

TBR’s view – Should Spurs still eye Piatek, despite Arsenal comments?

Purely on footballing terms, Piatek is a top striker that is still young and at £30million, he is a bargain. The former Genoa ace would not only give Spurs top-quality back-up to Kane, but he would also compete with the England skipper.

Should his comments about Arsenal affect Tottenham’s potential move for Piatek? Rivalry is big in England but Piatek will be paid to score goals for Tottenham – if he moves. It should not affect his performances. It would be different had Piatek played for Arsenal in the past.
