According to , Arsenal are among a number of other Premier League clubs interested in signing Flamengo’s Gabriel Barbosa, who is popularly known as Gabigol.

The Gunners are on the lookout for a new striker. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are expected to leave in January, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks nothing like his previous self.

Arsenal need a new number nine who is capable of scoring regularly, and Edu has reportedly decided to dive into the Brazilian market that he knows better than most sporting directors in the world.

Gabigol would certainly be an interesting signing for the Gunners and he’s a big fan of Thierry Henry as well. But, one of his previous comments on Tottenham Hotspur may not sit well with Arsenal supporters.

Arsenal-linked Gabigol once called Tottenham a mega club

Gabigol has been heavily linked with a move to England for a while now. A number of sides have reportedly been interested in his services in the past, including Tottenham, who he labelled ‘a mega club’.

He told : “I always liked watching the Premier League. In the beginning, it was difficult to see many games, because of the TV, but I always liked it.

“I always saw the goals of Thierry Henry – I thought he was a very powerful, strong and intelligent striker.

“I still watch it now, I really like Pep Guardiola’s style at Manchester City, Chelsea managed to form a great team with Thomas Tuchel’s hands.

“Liverpool have a very interesting team and a fantastic coach. Tottenham is a mega team and I really enjoyed the West Ham season. I’m a big fan of Premier League football.”

Arsenal fans definitely won’t like Gabigol’s assessment of Tottenham, but the one thing every Gooner will agree is that he’s a goal machine.

The Brazilian, reportedly valued at over £30 million, has scored 28 goals in all competitions this season. He netted 21 last team and 34 in the year before, which is a remarkable return for a striker.,

However, Gabigol’s last adventure in Europe – at Inter and Benfica – was a hugely disappointing one.

The Premier League is on a whole new level compared to the Brazilian top-flight, but Edu knows his Brazilians and if he thinks Barbosa is good enough for Arsenal, Gunners fans should trust him.
