3 players who deserve Liverpool chance after international break

Liverpool have recovered well from a 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa prior to the last international break and haven’t tasted defeat since that disappointing night at Villa Park.

The reigning Premier League champions were forced to settle for a point from Sunday’s trip to Manchester City but the signs are good that they could retain their title.

Liverpool are still considered by many as the team to beat during 2020/21 and given the extent of their attacking talent, it’s easy to understand why they are fancied.

Jurgen Klopp does have a decent-sized squad and with that in mind, some players might be knocking on the door for more first-team minutes.

Here at TBR, we looked at three players who deserve a chance to impose themselves on the Liverpool team after the break.

Xherdan Shaqiri

It’s been a difficult year or so for the Switzerland star but when he has been given chances this season he has showcased his talents.

He produced a marvellous assist during a recent game against West Ham, whilst he also shone in the League Cup against Lincoln City.

The player is full of tricks and his physique makes him extremely strong in possession of the ball.

It’ll be tough for Shaqiri but he is perhaps deserving of more minutes than he’s getting right now.

Naby Keita

The midfielder has struggled to really take off since his arrival from RB Leipzig in 2018 for £48 million

He started the team’s first four Premier League fixtures this season but hasn’t featured in the following four.

Keita was on the bench on Sunday without getting on the pitch as Klopp deployed a two-man midfield.

His energy might make him a better option than Gini Wijnaldum if Liverpool persist with 4-2-3-1 – giving the manager some food for thought.

Diogo Jota

Sounds strange considering the impact the ex-Wolves man has had at Liverpool but Klopp needs to end the rotation and stick with Jota.

Roberto Firmino has been shy of goals for a while now and if the Reds boss goes back to a 4-3-3 it should be the Brazilian to drop out.

Jota has fired seven goals in 11 appearances, including a devastating hat-trick against Atalanta in the Champions League.

The 23-year-old has the potential to be a real star at Anfield and Klopp should give Jota a prolonged run once the domestic action returns.
