Celtic have enjoyed a pretty disappointing start to the 2020/21 campaign by the club’s usual high standards.
The Hoops trail Rangers by nine points, although Neil Lennon’s men do have two games in hand on their fierce rivals.
Celtic did thrash Motherwell 4-1 at the weekend to get over the disappointment of being on the wrong end of the same scoreline against Sparta Prague.
With the international break upon us, we looked at three players who will be pushing hard to earn a chance in the Celtic team when domestic action returns.
David Turnbull
The player signed from Motherwell has struggled to hold down a regular place in the team since his arrival.
Turnbull has played just six times for the Hoops, registering one assist for the club.
The 21-year-old has plenty of time on his side, although he might have expected to play more following his move to Celtic Park.
Eventually, he will earn a chance and when it does come he must grasp it with both hands.
Leigh Griffiths
On his day, the striker is one of Scottish football’s most feared marksmen and Lennon will be desperate for him to find some form.
Chris Sutton launched a scratching attack on the 30-year-old for a recent Europa League performance and he’ll be keen to prove the ex-striker wrong.
Griffiths has scored three goals in five appearances for the Hoops this season but didn’t get off the bench in Sunday’s win.
He is still an asset on his day and Lennon might be wise to hand him a regular run out in the near future.
Tom Rogic
The Australian forward is another player who many supporters think has been vastly underused by Lennon.
Rogic has started just twice in the league but has registered three assists from his outings so far this season.
With more game time he could be a seriously useful asset to Lennon’s team but he’s been left on the fringes all too often.
At 27, the versatile performer is still at a good age to be contributing and a run in the Celtic team surely beckons.
