‘3/10’, ‘often made things worse’: Media unhappy with Liverpool defender’s display today

Liverpool fell further behind in the Premier League title race following their 3-3 draw with Brighton at Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds defence often floundered as the visitors raced into a 2-0 lead before coming back to salvage a point.

Liverpool conceded after just four minutes at Anfield, as Leandro Trossard opened the scoring.

He pounced on a loose ball and beat Alisson with a left-footed strike into the bottom corner of the net.

Then, things got worse for Liverpool as they conceded a second in the 18th minute.

Trossard was once again on the scoresheet, Solly March setting him up for a finish from a tight angle.

Liverpool eventually halved the deficit in the 33rd minute.

Mohamed Salah squared the ball for Roberto Firmino to dink over the Brighton keeper.

Substitute Luis Diaz had an instant impact early in the second half, setting up Firmino for Liverpool’s equaliser.

The Brazilian showed great composure once again to carve out an opening and shoot on his left foot.

Brighton then dragged themselves back into it, courtesy of more woeful Liverpool defending.

Kaoru Mitoma found Trossard at the back post, his delivery going past at least three players.

And the Belgian duly struck for his hat-trick, en route to a final score of 3-3 at Anfield.

‘Left in a tangled knot’

It wasn’t a great day at the office for Liverpool, in particular their back line.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, for instance, really struggled, and picked up poor media ratings post-match.

For instance, the gave him a mere 3 out of 10.

‘Unfortunate slip for the first goal, they wrote. ‘But gave the ball away due to lack of awareness for the second.

‘Efforts to improve often made things worse, but swung in corner for third goal.’

Meanwhile, gave Alexander-Arnold a 4 out of 10 rating.

‘Beaten too easily by Trossard for his first goal before his miscontrolled touch directly led to Brighton’s second,’ they wrote.

‘Two glaring errors but did play some decent attacking balls.

‘A couple of iffy clearances in the second period before the cross for the third goal came from his side.

‘Free-kick in stoppage-time forced a fine save out of Sanchez. Booked.’

was a bit more generous, giving Alexander-Arnold a 5 out of 10.

They wrote: ‘Left in a tangled knot when trying – and failing – to defend Trossard one-on-one but did offer some threat with his penetrative passing.’
