28-goal ace discusses ‘mixing with’ Celtic and Rangers stars, both clubs reportedly want him
Reported Glasgow Rangers and Celtic target Lawrence Shankland has of his pride at “mixing with” Parkhead pair Odsonne Edouard and Callum McGregor and Ibrox striker Alfredo Morelos as the quartet vie for the Scottish Football Writers’ Association’s Player of the Year award.
With 28 goals in 33 games for Dundee United across all competitions, plus a debut strike for the Scotland national team, the 24-year-old has had quite the season.
Shankland’s efforts helped the Terrors go 14 points clear at the top of the Scottish Championship table, the club in April after the SPFL’s resolution to “call” the season passed.
Given his efforts, it’s little surprise to see him linked with the likes of Rangers and Celtic, with the reporting ahead of the January transfer window that they had been keeping tabs on him all season.
Former Tangerines ace Steven Thompson told in March that he would be surprised if the “really good finisher” with a “predatory instinct” was to stay at Tannadice beyond the summer.
Shankland is now vying with the Old Firm trio over the accolade and is quoted by the as saying: “I was surprised. It’s a big award and to be nominated alongside these players is great. It’s something to be proud of.
“It’s good company to keep. They are three great players that I’m mixing with. Everyone knows if you are playing for Rangers and Celtic then you are a good player but when you see them playing in Europe they are just top players.”

Shankland has clearly been a cut above in the second tier of Scottish football and has helped his side back into the Premiership, not to mention breaking into the Scotland team.
Admittedly, the player did tell the in April that he was looking to line up against “all the top teams in the Premiership” next season, suggesting that he’s more likely to take to the Parkhead pitch as an opponent.
However, let’s face the facts – money talks, as does glory, so for how long will one of the top four players in Scotland this season remain outside of the Glasgow duopoly?
