Arsenal are gearing up for a hugely important summer transfer window and PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo is reportedly one of Mikel Arteta’s top targets.

reported a month ago that the Gunners are in pole position to sign the talented 22-year-old, who has been absolutely incredible for PSV this season.

Gakpo, a truly versatile forward, can play anywhere in attack. Most of his appearances this campaign have come on the left flank, but he can play on the opposite side, up top and also in a number 10 position if required.

The Dutchman is a fantastic talent and it is no surprise that Arsenal are looking at him. However, his injury history is a slight concern.

Arsenal-linked Cody Gakpo has a truly worrying injury record

Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey are two of Arsenal’s most important players but both of them have struggled with injuries. The two have all but been ruled out for the remainder of this season, making the Gunners’ life a lot more difficult.

Arsenal should be wary of players’ injury records before signing them and Gakpo’s history of fitness issues over the last 18 months is really worrying.

The 22-year-old, since October 2020, has missed 28 games for PSV in all competitions. Two of his injuries over that period have been ankle issues, which kept him out for a combined 101 days. ()

That should be a massive cause for concern for Arteta and Edu ahead of the summer transfer window.

TBR View:

Physically, the Premier League is a lot more demanding compared to the Eredivisie. The intensity is much higher and some of the challenges wingers face on a weekly basis raise the risk of injuries.

Gakpo may well find it difficult to adapt to that, but the one thing that’s clear is he’s a truly magnificent talent.

The Dutchman has scored 18 goals and provided 15 assists in all competitions this season. That’s more than every other Arsenal player and he really does have the potential to become a star in the coming years.

It will be interesting to see if Gakpo’s injury history plays a part in the minds of Arsenal and his other suitors this summer.
