26-year-old Spurs star would be annoyed unless he was playing in one position last term
Journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke has suggested that Richarlison would be annoyed last season when he did not play up front for Tottenham Hotspur – even with Harry Kane being the one to often keep him out of the position.
Richarlison has been able to prove a real point for Tottenham this season. The Brazilian has scored nine goals in his last 10 games in all competitions.
It has been a long road for the 26-year-old to get to this point. Spurs made Richarlison when he made the switch from Everton. And his versatility seemed to make him an ideal option to provide cover and competition for Harry Kane.
Richarlison hated not playing up front for Tottenham last season
But it proved to be a frustrating campaign for Spurs and Richarlison. The forward would only score one Premier League goal. And it seems that he was not at all happy with how he was used by the likes of Antonio Conte and Ryan Mason.

Speaking on podcast, Pitt-Brooke suggested that Richarlison expected to be used a striker a lot more often.
“The confidence element is connected to the football element, because he’s always wanted to play as a number nine. Even when Harry Kane was at the club, he would get p—– off that he was not playing as a centre forward,” he said.
“Now you might say that you shouldn’t have gone to Tottenham in the first place if you wanted to play centre forward and you knew that they already had Harry Kane. But he did. And he wasn’t particularly enjoying being out wide or on the bench, because you wouldn’t really if you wanted to play as a striker.”
Another player transformed under Ange Postecoglou
It did appear for some time that Richarlison would simply never prove himself at Tottenham. He had shown that he could do well in the Premier League, particularly at Everton. But something was not clicking at Spurs.
However, that has largely changed this season. Richarlison can be added to the long list of players who have been transformed under Ange Postecoglou.
And he will perhaps argue that getting that run in the side as the central striker has been a real turning point for him.
