£25m player who Tottenham failed to sign now ranked as a much more exciting prospect than Lucas Bergvall

Tottenham Hotspur will undoubtedly be extremely happy that they were able to beat Barcelona to the signing of Lucas Bergvall in January.

18-year-old Bergvall is already proving his rich potential in his final few months playing with Djurgarden, making waves in the Swedish cup.

Bergvall has now played five games, scored three goals and provided four assists, meaning he’s averaging 1.4 goals or assists per 90 minutes – incredible numbers.

And whilst some will immediately turn their heads to England being a big step up, which it will be, there’s definitely reason for optimism.

Bergvall is excellent at progressing the ball and should really suit the style of play that Ange Postecoglou looks to install.

That being said, Tottenham always wanted to sign another talented youngster in January, perhaps in addition to Bergvall.

Antonio Nusa was a player the club seemed to chase with real intent, even if he eventually opted to sign for Brentford before a deal broke down.

That being said, Goal have just shared their ‘’ list of the best 50 wonderkids in football.

And in that, Nusa ranked a lot higher than Bergvall.

Antonio Nusa ranked higher than Lucas Bergvall after nearing January move to Tottenham

Bergvall and Nusa don’t really compare stylistically, they’re two completely different players, but this list seemed confident that the Belgian was the better prospect.

Perhaps Tottenham would have liked to have signed both Nusa and Bergvall in January, and a deal may even be revisited in the summer.

And therefore it will probably be of interest to hear what Goal wrote about when putting Nusa in 11th spot – for context Bergvall was in 23rd.

Goal spoke about Nusa being a ‘bag of tricks’, comfortable cutting in from the left hand side onto his right foot.

And for anyone who has watched Nusa in a Norway shirt of late, they’ll know just what to expect should he ever arrive in England.

The report did actually mention Tottenham coming close to a £25m deal to sign Nusa in January too, which came just before their move for Bergvall.

Nusa’s progress will definitely be worth keeping an eye on, a player with a really bright future.

That being said, Spurs youngster Ashley Phillips has continued to impress out on loan of late.
