£25m player Liverpool sold suggests he wants to come back to Anfield in three years
Liverpool are having a fantastic season in the Premier League.
The Reds have been better than every other side in the English top-flight, and they are now the absolute favourites to go all the way in the Premier League title race.
A lot of credit should go to Arne Slot, who has managed Liverpool brilliantly despite making just one signing in last summer’s transfer window.
The Merseysiders also allowed three players to leave the club last year. One of them has now shared his thoughts about his Liverpool exit.
Sepp van den Berg shares what Liverpool told him before he left
Sepp van den Berg spent five years on Liverpool’s books.
The Dutchman joined the Reds from Zwolle in the summer of 2019, when Jurgen Klopp was still at the helm. He was viewed by many as a huge talent.
However, despite that, Van den Berg only managed four senior competitive appearances for Liverpool.
The defender got opportunities in pre-season, and reports claimed that Van den Berg impressed Slot in training.
The defender has revealed now that Liverpool even asked him to stay after he showed his ability, but he had made up his mind that he wanted to leave.
However, the Dutch centre-half has admitted that he still dreams of playing for Liverpool and has opened the door for a return to Anfield in the next two or three years.

He told : “I had a few conversations with Slot. But before the preparation started, I already indicated to the club that I wanted to leave and play minutes.
“I would be lying if I said that I did not dream of returning to Liverpool one day. That is still on my mind. But for now, it was better for my career to take a different path and play a lot.
“I am doing that now and that allows me to develop as well as possible. After the preparation, Liverpool indicated that I had done so well that they wanted me to stay. But I did not really see that myself. It was all my choice; I am happy that I now play in the Premier League every week.”
“I would be lying if I said that I didn’t look at that myself,” he said when he sees his exit as a missed opportunity because the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez have had injury problems this season.
“That’s football, you don’t know. I did well in the preparation, and I could really see myself playing for the club, but not with the credit that I now have at Brentford. I am now a starter who always plays as long as he is fit.
“At Liverpool, I would have been more of a player who had to fill in gaps. I would rather be that starter. And who knows, if I do well here for two or three years, I will return to Liverpool and be a starter there too.”
The clause Liverpool inserted in the deal to sell Sepp van den Berg to Brentford
A number of clubs were interested in signing Van den Berg from Liverpool last summer.
The Dutchman had just returned from an impressive loan spell at Mainz in Germany, and he was a wanted man – in the Premier League and abroad.
Brentford finally secured a deal to sign Van den Berg in a deal worth £25 million (), which is excellent business on Liverpool’s part.
To add to that, the Reds have inserted a sell-on clause in the deal which will allow them to pocket 17.5 per cent of the fee Brentford will eventually sell him for.
That’s not exactly a buy-back clause, but it will surely allow Liverpool to negotiate a more favourable deal if they ever decide to bring Van den Berg back.
