£25m player likely to leave Southampton this summer as Leeds United could trigger release clause

TBR Football understand Aaron Ramsdale is likely to leave Southampton this summer – with Leeds United and Brentford monitoring the situation.

The England international joined the Saints in a £25m move from Arsenal back in August – after Mikel Arteta made David Raya his No.1 in north London – and while he is playing regularly on the south coast, it has been a tough season nonetheless.

In 18 Premier League appearances, the 26-year-old has kept just two clean sheets and conceded 41 goals, with Southampton currently sitting bottom of the table on nine points.

Now, TBR Football have received information on what is likely to happen with Aaron Ramsdale this summer.

Southampton likely to lose Aaron Ramsdale

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – has now been told that the Southampton No.30 is likely to leave the south coast at the end of the season, should the Saints drop into the Championship as expected.

We understand Leeds United and Brentford are monitoring the situation – the Whites in particular need a goalkeeper as Illan Meslier struggles – and sources have told TBR Football that a relegation release clause is written into Ramsdale’s contract.

The exact value of this clause remains undisclosed, but Southampton are expected to recoup the £25m spent to sign the man born in Stoke-on-Trent.

TBR Football understand both Chelsea and Newcastle have previously looked at Ramsdale too – and a renewal of that interest this summer cannot be ruled out.

What Pep Guardiola and Ian Wright have said about Aaron Ramsdale as Leeds and Brentford circle

If Leeds or Brentford can sign Ramsdale this summer, it would be quite a coup based on what Pep Guardiola and Ian Wright have previously said about the glovesman.

Guardiola said Ramsdale plays like a Manchester City goalkeeper – always showing for the ball and operating almost like a defender far off his line – saying: “They have good moments and the courage to play. I use the keeper like (how Southampton) uses the keeper, Ramsdale, right now.”

Wright even said Chelsea should have signed Ramsdale, adding: “I think if Chelsea can get a goalkeeper, a top goalkeeper, I think Ramsdale would’ve been perfect for them, but hey.”
