25-year-old star does not regret Tottenham move despite struggles
that he does not regret his move to Tottenham Hotspur three years ago, despite scoring just six goals for the club.
Janssen, 25, has made a somewhat surprising move to Mexican club Monterrey this summer, after managing just 42 appearances for the north London club. He was surplus to requirements ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
The Netherlands international scored just six goals in 38 games during his first season, four of which were from the penalty spot. He went on loan to Fenerbahce in his second season, but scored just five goals.
Last term, he spent most of his time on the sidelines due to injury. A dismal spell at Spurs for Janssen, then, who promised so much after 32 goals in one season at AZ Alkmaar. But he has no regrets over his £17million move ().

“The Tottenham chapter did not go the way we wanted, but I think I would make the same choice if I had another chance. If you play at AZ and there is such a large club that you want, then you will be impressed,”
“In the beginning I missed opportunities that I sometimes think afterwards ‘if I had used them, things could have turned out differently’. Anyway, I’m not going to blame myself for that. I have always given one hundred percent.”
TBR’s view – Janssen never stood a chance at Tottenham
That claim has since been proven by Fernando Llorente. A World Cup winner with enormous experience of Champions League football and playing for the likes of Juventus, even the Spaniard struggled.
To act as a back-up striker to Harry Kane is difficult. Tottenham fans have got used to having a striker that scores goals for fun in Kane, and it is very hard to emulate the England captain when given the chance.
Llorente scored 13 goals in two seasons for Spurs, hardly setting the world alight. Janssen similarly struggled. It must be considered a near-impossible job, rather than the player being blamed.
