25-year-old is aware Arteta wants him; Arsenal current favourites this summer
Journalist Dean Jones has shared where Arsenal sit in the queue in the race to sign Martin Zubimendi, with the Real Sociedad star aware of the Gunners’ interest.
Martin Zubimendi appears to have been on Arsenal’s radar for well over a year now. It was reported during the 2023 January transfer window that Zubimendi had rejected a move to Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta appears to keep serious targets on his radar for some time. So it is hardly surprising that the Gunners seemingly remain in the race to sign the 25-year-old, who played against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on Wednesday.
Martin Zubimendi aware of Arsenal interest
It is going to be a big ask for Sociedad to return to the competition next season. And with that, Arsenal may sense that there is a better chance of signing the Spain international this summer.

Writing for , Dean Jones has now provided an update on the future of Zubimendi. He noted that both Liverpool and Manchester United also like Zubimendi. But it is Arsenal on pole position.
And while it remains to be seen if he is prepared to make the move to the Premier League, he does know that he is wanted at the Emirates.
“According to sources in Spain, 25-year-old Zubimendi has so far refused to seriously contemplate the prospect of a move to Arsenal even though he is aware of their interest,” he said.
“It is understood that he is seriously considering whether the Premier League is a suitable destination for himself first, and needs to be fully convinced that that a move would suit his playing style.
“The waiting game will suit Liverpool though, as they contemplate Jurgen Klopp’s successor. They have the potential to sign another midfielder, and while Zubimendi has been more of a watching brief up to now, that may change if Alonso was to be appointed.
“For now the Gunners remain favourites, and they are ready to commit to making changes in the summer with the possibility of Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe both being moved on.”
Gunners move may be tempting
If Zubimendi is prepared to leave San Sebastián, a move to Arsenal may be a tempting one. Kieran Tierney will probably be praising the club while he is on loan. And he played with Martin Odegaard at the start of his career.
It is also a fantastic time to join Arsenal. The Gunners are in the title picture for a second year running. And given the age of their squad, there is no reason why this cannot be an incredibly successful spell for the club.
Perhaps Zubimendi will want to be a part of it.
