£20m player has no future at Tottenham while Ange Postecoglou is at the club

Djed Spence has no future at Tottenham Hotspur while Ange Postecoglou remains in charge.

That’s according to Sami Mokbel, who has been discussing Djed Spence’s future after his recent loan move to Genoa.

Spence returned from Leeds United ahead of schedule this month following a disappointing spell at Elland Road.

The 23-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Tottenham since his move from Middlesborough in the summer of 2022.

He’s yet to start a single game for Spurs after being signed during Antonio Conte’s tenure.

The Englishman has spent time at Stade-Rennais, Leeds and now Genoa on loan but after failing to impress Ange Postecoglou in pre-season, his days at Spurs could be numbered.

Spence has no future at Tottenham under Postecoglou

Speaking on the , Mokbel was asked about Spence’s future following his recent switch to Genoa.

“Spence, I don’t think he’s got a future at Tottenham,” the journalist said. “From a very good source, maybe about 10 days ago when he returned from Leeds under a cloud shall we say, it was reiterated to me again that as soon as he arrived, they would immediately, and I wrote it at the time, look to get him out the door.

“There are several reasons for that. He hasn’t covered himself in glory since he’s been at Tottenham. He’s been shipped off to Genoa.

“I think for as long as Ange Postecoglou is at the club, and it looks as if he’s going to be there for a long while, I don’t think he’s got a future at Tottenham.”

Spence arrived in north London with plenty of promise after an exceptional year with Nottingham Forest in the 2021-22 season.

But it just hasn’t worked out for him at Spurs and it’s clear he doesn’t feature in Postecoglou’s long-term plans.

The former Forest man was part of the deal for Spurs to sign Radu Dragusin last week and Genoa do have the option to make the move permanent.

Whether or not Spence impresses in Italy and secures a move to Genoa remains to be seen, but it’s evident his says at Tottenham are numbered.
