£20m defender among two big winners and two big losers from Tottenham’s summer transfer window
Tottenham had a good transfer window this summer as they managed to clear some of the dead wood and bring in a number of fresh faces.
Ange Postecoglou had called for change at the back end of last season and he certainly got that with the new signings.
In came Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, and Min-hyeok Yang, while Dominic Solanke was the big signing at over £60m.

In terms of outgoings, the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Emerson Royal, and Oliver Skipp were among a group moved on to freshen things up.
Of course, any transfer window brings ups and downs and for some, it will have done more harm than good.
Here, then, we’ve looked at two of the biggest winners and losers from Tottenham’s excellent summer transfer window in 2024.
Winner One – Ange Postecoglou
When a manager comes out in the public and asks for change, the last thing he wants is to have to deal with the same squad going into a new season.
Thankfully, Postecoglou has been backed by Daniel Levy and co this summer and now has a squad to work with which he’ll feel far happier about.
Sure, this weekend’s defeat to Newcastle gives Ange food for thought and defensively, they still look short.
But on the whole, the Tottenham boss got what he wanted and now the onus is on him to show he can get a tune out of the new group.

Loser One – Richarlison
The Brazilian was meant to be the player who Spurs turned to when Harry Kane left to get the goals on a regular basis.
However, it’s just not worked out for Richarlison since moving to Spurs and there has been interest all summer long in him from abroad.
For now, he’s still at the club but the signing of Dominic Solanke has pushed him down the pecking order again and he’ll know deep down that he’s playing second fiddle now.

Winner Two – Djed Spence
It’s been quite the turnaround here for signing Djed Spence.
The defender looked like he’d never play for Tottenham again after spending last season with Genoa and seemingly being out of Postecoglou’s plans.
However, Spence has impressed over pre-season and is now part of the Tottenham squad going forward.
For Spence, this season is all about making a good impression and battling with Pedro Porro for minutes down the right.
If he can do that and prove himself to Postecoglou, he might well end up having a good career with Spurs.

Loser Two – Timo Werner
It might seem odd to include one of the new signings as a ‘loser’ but Timo Werner was one of the first players brought in but now looks like he’s not going to get much of a look in.
Sure, Werner came on at the weekend at Newcastle but the signing of Wilson Odobert and the addition of Solanke means he’s now got even more competition.
Werner’s career has very much been stop-start since his big move to Chelsea failed and now, he faces another fight to even get minutes.
