20 games last season, but Everton must loan out Jonjoe Kenny this month

Last season was an impressive one from Everton’s young right-back Jonjoe Kenny. He came into the season off the back of an impressive summer, helping England’s under-20s win the World Cup.

He then went on to play a much larger role in the first-team than anticipated at the start of the campaign. Injuries saw him play 20 times for Everton last season before Seamus Coleman returned to fitness.

Kenny came away from the season as one of few Everton players with any credit from the fans.

But this season already looks like it will be a lot tougher for Kenny. With Coleman fit, the Irishman can be expected to play every game he is available for Everton. Without European competition, the chance of rotation is very low.

Judging by the season opener v Wolves, Mason Holgate will also get the nod for matchday squads ahead of Kenny. With his ability to play both at centre-back and right-back, it makes perfect sense. With the out-of-favour Cuco Martina still around, Everton are well stocked at right-back.

But Kenny is now beyond under-23 football. He needs to be playing regularly this term though so Everton must surely consider sending him out on loan.

Plenty of Championship teams, who have until the end of the month to secure a deal, and even teams in mainland Europe, would love to have Kenny on board for the season.

If Everton want him to continue progressing, he needs to spend the upcoming campaign away from Goodison Park.
