£17m player admits he’s flattered after being linked with Tottenham and Newcastle this summer

Both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United will be competing for a similar prize this season, a spot in the Champions League.

From Spurs’ point of view, they know that Ange Postecoglou has rich ambitions for the club, a manager aiming to win trophies and not just continental qualification.

Similarly, Eddie Howe will eventually be under pressure to do something similar on Tyneside, for a number of reasons.

Newcastle are investing a lot into their project, even if they are still being frustrated by PSR.

And the club will be continually attempting to prove to the likes of Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimarares that this is the right club for them to achieve all of their ambitions.

Fortunately for Spurs, it doesn’t seem as if they are currently at risk of losing any of their stars, but perhaps Postecoglou’s long-term future would be the biggest doubt were Tottenham not to show adequate ambition.

That being said, with both Newcastle and Tottenham in need of a defender before the window closes, Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen is of interest to both sides.

Joachim Andersen discusses his future amid Tottenham and Newcastle interest

Newcastle could turn to Andersen as a March Guehi alternative, were they not able to agree a deal for the England international.

And Tottenham also want Andersen, someone who could perhaps provide serious competition for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

That being said, Andersen has now been discussing his future with , and admitted he is flattered by interest.

He said: “I can’t say much, I can say I have two years left on my contract, that’s it really.

Interviewer: “Is it flattering?”

Andersen replied: “It’s always nice when clubs want you.

“I just play football and try to do my best and I had three really good years at Palace and we’re building something great so yeah, I’m just happy where I am like I said.

“I’m a Palace player and I have two years left so I can’t say more than that.”

Of course, it will be interesting to see if either Tottenham or Newcastle pushes to sign the defender who cost Palace back in 2021.

Fulham have now had a bid rejected for Andersen, another Premier League club vying for the Dane’s signature.
