16-year-old Arsenal youngster could make his debut against Bolton in League Cup after injury update

Arsenal return to action tonight but they will be facing a slightly different opposition as they return to Carabao Cup action.

Mikel Arteta‘s side are coming into their opening game in the League Cup following a dramatic draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Gunners took a point from the reigning champions but there was a feeling that it may well have been two points dropped given the nature of the result.

However, it was more than just a point which the Gunners picked up with Leandro Trossard missing tonight’s game against Bolton Wanderers through suspension.

And adding to the Belgian’s absence, Arteta may now be forced to play a 16-year-old from the start due to another potential injury concern.

Arsenal could start 16-year-old vs Bolton

It has been the story of Arsenal‘s season so far with Martin Odegaard’s concerning injury leaving Arteta with selection headache.

Despite missing their captain, the north London side have been able to impress with the draw they picked up on the road against City.

But Wednesday night is going to provide Arteta with a completely new decision to make between the sticks.

According to the , Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya is expected to be rested on Wednesday night against Bolton.

This comes after the Spaniard was seen hobbling out of the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening with a suspected injury issue.

However, backup goalkeeper Neto is cup tied and third-choice keeper Tommy Setford has been absent through fitness issues in recent weeks.

This means the next natural replacement for Arteta would be the 16-year-old Jack Porter who could be in line to make his senior debut.

Arsenal will be hoping for a routine cup win

After the controversy and drama to come from Sunday’s game against City, Arteta and the Gunners will be hoping for a comfortable evening against the League One outfit.

Bolton have not exactly made the brightest of starts to their league campaign but they should be up for the prospect of playing one of the best sides in Europe.

And the notion of potentially playing against a 16-year-old goalkeeper in Porter could well give them some extra hope going into the game.

For Porter’s sake, the north London outfit will be looking to lead the game on the front foot to avoid the youngster enduring any unnecessary pressure between the sticks.
