£15m player Mikel Arteta really wants to sign now suggests he has no desire to join Arsenal

Transfer targets can often come and go in football as situations change quickly – although there are two players Mikel Arteta is fixated on at Arsenal.

One of these names is Real Sociedad No.4 Martin Zubimendi.

Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports – speaking on – claimed that Arsenal are huge admirers of the Spain international, and Arteta would have him at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow if he could.

However, there is another player Arsenal love, who has unfortunately now suggested he has no plans to join the Gunners any time soon…

Douglas Luiz suggests he has no desire to join Arsenal

Well, Jacobs also mentioned Aston Villa No.6 Douglas Luiz when naming the two players Mikel Arteta would love to have at Arsenal.

Sadly for the Spaniard, it sounds like the Brazil international has no desire to leave Villa Park any time soon, and is focused on achieving big things with the Villans – who he joined in a move from Manchester City back in July 2019.

Luiz DAZN Portugal: “Personally, I’m very happy with it all and I think it’s just the start of a new chapter. As I always say, Aston Villa is a huge club and we’re prepared to write a new chapter.”

These comments may also come as a blow to Manchester City – Pep Guardiola is also said to be keen on signing the South American and bringing him back to the Etihad Stadium.

Martin Zubimendi is more likely

Arsenal could sign a new central midfielder this summer amid doubts over the future of Jorginho – who sees his contract expire in July.

As things stand, Zubimendi is a far likelier signing than Luiz, and we can see Edu striking a deal.

Mainly, that is because no discussions need to take place with Real Sociedad, as the Spaniard has a fixed £53m release clause written into his contract.

Zubimendi is said to be aware of Arteta’s love for him, and Arsenal are considered favourites to sign the 25-year-old this summer.

Therefore, if you asked us to choose between Arsenal signing Luiz or the man from San Sebastián this summer, the latter would have to go down as the more realistic deal – especially after those telling comments from the Brazilian.
